Echo Web were contracted by Motor Part Warehouse to develop a magento based ecommerce website, the graphics were provided by the client. The website makes use of magento’s in built currency and language selection. Additionally the website features a homepage slideshow, auction facility and custom programming.

How to find out what your Magento websites admin / login URL is?

If you’re stuggling to remember or have forgotten what your Magento ecommerce websites, there is a simple way of finding out what this is.

Downloaded the file app/etc/local.xml to your computer and open the file.
Locate the line of code –
“admin” – is the current path to the admin login screen here, change this to something more memorable, save and upload the file.

Ecommerce retailers VAT rise

The VAT rate is due to go up on the 4th January to 20%, if you have an ecommerce website you will need to update the VAT rate on this day. This is quite easy with most ecommerce websites that are built on Magento or Zen Cart, however, if your website is custom built or doesn’t give you the ability to update the VAT rate get in contact with us – we can add this functionality to your website.

It can take a long time to find out which template file to edit.

Magento provides an easy way

Go the the admin, select ‘System > Configuration’ in the menu.
On the ‘Current Configuration Scope:’ menu select a Store Name or Store View.
Click on ‘Advanced > Developer’ on the Configuration menu.
In the Debug tab, select Yes to Template Path Hints.

That should save you a lot of time when trying to find out which template file to edit on a magento store.
